Bruchim haBaim–welcome–to our updated website for the 2010 CFIC. As part of our theme this year, The Real Reel Israel, we’re dedicated to giving you a richer interactive experience than ever before. We’re also using real time ways to allow you to keep up-to-date with Festival events through Facebook and Twitter.
This year, for the first time we’re offering:
- E-schedules! A downloadable schedule of our films [pdf format; Adobe Acrobat plug-in required]
- Trailers! So you can preview every one of our films on this site and on YouTube
- Online advance ticket sales! Beginning Sept. 15, at fandango.com [Advance tickets are also available at the AMC box office at which the film is shown]
- CFIC Membership! For only $18 per year, you can purchase tickets on this website beginning Sept. 1–two weeks before they’re offered to the general public. Plus, you’ll get priority seating at the theater!
We’re also making our films come alive for you by providing expert insights:
- Israeli film scholar Pablo Utin is scheduled to speak at screenings of Five Hours from Paris and The Loners–films that will be of particular interest to the Russian community–as well as the Oct. 25 Northbrook screening of A Matter of Size
- Filmmaker Igaal Niddam is scheduled to speak at the first two screenings of his film Brothers, a tale that speaks to the heart of the Diaspora/Israel and secular/religious splits of today.
- An IDF paratrooper is scheduled to speak at back-to-back Oct. 28 screenings of the documentaries Battle Over The Soul and Yes, Miss Commander. Battle tells the story of the selfless heroism of an isolated IDF force caught behind Syrian lines at the start of the 1973 Yom Kippur War. Yes provides an insider’s view of a Tzahal (Israeli military) basic training camp in which young female sergeants turn misfits into soldiers.
We hope this gets you started in exploring the possibilities of today’s Israeli film world. Our goal is to share the enthusiasm for Israeli cinema that brought us to organize our fifth annual independent Festival, and to make your experience with us as much of a “you-are-there” visit to Israel as possible.
Stay tuned for future updates. Among other things, we’ll be posting about several of the particularly distinctive films in our lineup, as well as providing you with behind-the-scene insights of how some of these films have made their way from Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa and other places to our Festival.
We’re also on a never-ending quest to improve the CFIC, be sure to let us know your thoughts and opinions, here and via our NEW social media.
We look forward to sharing our Festival with you!
Stuart Drucker, CFIC Committee
